Dr. John Burke, Audiologist
30 years of helping adults & children to hear
My name is John Burke. I am a Doctor of Audiology and have been in private practice with Northwest Hearing for over 30 years. I'm also the Audiologist for all the schools in Northwestern Colorado. Yes ... it's a lot of driving! But as the father of a large family, I care about all the kids out there who might begin life with impaired hearing. I work to get them tested early so we can catch problems before they have a life-long impact on these precious kids.
I am not in the profession of selling hearing aids ... I'm in the profession of helping people to hear. I feel very strongly about this ... too many people are out there mainly to sell you hearing aids. I do not try to 'sell' my patients anything. My goal is to answer your questions as best I can, and if a hearing aid device will help you hear better, then I'll let you try a demo before making a financial commitment. But my approach is always low-key - you are in the driver's seat.
As you can imagine, with over 30 years of experience I've worked with a lot of different hearing aids, from a lot of manufacturers. And ... I have some strong opinions. There is a lot of slick advertising for some of the well known hearing aids, but when you compare functionality there is to my mind only a couple of hearing aids out there that are worth your investment. And some of the very inexpensive hearing aids you hear about are false economy ... they simply don't work well. Of course, I can give you just about any hearing aid you want, but I actively promote what I think objectively think is the best technology in the world - Phonak Hearing Aids. I have never found a better device ... and if I do, then I'll switch.
My personal goal is to be the best Audiologist out there, and that means not only keeping abreast of medical advances in my field and treating my patients with compassion and thoroughness, but also keeping up to date on the most current technologies in hearing devices.
I also have a strong commitment to helping those less fortunate in our community by donating my time, finding funding, and trying to find used hearing aids. If you or someone you know is upgrading to new hearing aids, or has passed away, please consider donating the used hearing aids to my office and I will find a recipient who otherwise couldn't afford a hearing aid.
I look forward to meeting and working with you.
John
